On behalf of the Mullen family I would like to welcome you to Smarmore Castle.

We are pleased to offer you stylish accommodation in an elegant castle setting at a value for money price. Our rates include accommodation and full Irish breakfast.

If you are planning a short break, family vacation, celebrating a special occasion or just want to avoid staying in an anonymous hotel then why not spend some time here as our guest. We can guarantee you the warm welcome and personal service that Ireland is famous for.

While here you are welcome to take a leisurely walk in our grounds, admire the stonework in the tower or curl up with a good book in our drawing room. The castle is all about taking life slowly and letting the cares of the world roll away.

Smarmore Castle is one of Ireland’s oldest buildings, dating from 1320. It has just five bedrooms so you won’t feel overcrowded. They are all spacious and distinctive. The Viscount’s room, located in the tower has a four poster bed while a number of the others are ideal for families. All our bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities, an ensuite shower room and are centrally heated. We have tried to ensure that they maintain their sense of history while offering the comfort of the most contemporary boutique accommodation.

For over 650 years Smarmore Castle was the ancestral home of the Taaffe family who owned many castles throughout Ireland and Europe. Before that Saint Patrick and Cúchulainn may have passed through its stately surroundings. Isn’t it time you paid us a visit?

Smarmore Castle is only one hours drive from Dublin and provides the perfect base from which to explore the world famous heritage sites at Newgrange (Brú na Bóinne), Knowth, Hill of Tara, Monasterboice, Mellifont Abbey, Battle of the Boyne, Trim Castle, Carlingford and Cooley peninsula. If you are feeling energetic you can enjoy activities including golf, horse riding, walking and clay pigeon shooting.

We don’t have a bar in the castle but you are welcome to bring your own drinks along. There is an excellent Italian restaurant called La Cucina located in the castle courtyard. It's owners offer a range of delicious dishes based on authentic Italian recipes.
