The Jumping Church, Kildemock, ArdeeThe jumping church at Kildemock, just outside Ardee continues to be a source of fascination to visitors and locals alike. Popular folklore has it that in 1715 the gable wall of the church jumped two or three feet within its own foundations in order to leave the grave of an excommunicated man outside. Another explanation suggests that it was lifted and moved intact by a great storm at the time. The real explanation – who knows? Visitors can make their own minds up as part of the wall remains there today. |
